Yorli Mendoza

Born in Caracas, Venezuela

Lives & works in London, UK

She is a Venezuelan born, London based Photographer, Visual Artist and Sociologist. She is a recent photography graduate having completed an M.A in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography from LCC in 2018. Her final project was awarded a prestigious Genesis Imaging award for best in show. Mendoza currently work as freelance photographer in self-initiated projects that aim to directly challenge people’s ideas and expectations about particular subjects

Mendoza has created a broad body of work that includes photography, installations, video, text, and sound. Mendoza’s work tends to be long-term projects focused on specific themes. The themes vary from project to project, she likes exploring all sorts of subjects, from humanitarian to environmental; however, her projects are similar in approach and form.

Having originally begun her higher education in Sociology, her interest and areas of research have focused on people in the context of their environment – how they perceive and relate to their surroundings, culture, and society. Having been trained in methods of qualitative research, but naturally using the camera to visualize this, a passion for merging methods of social research with photography and videography was born, and through an MA in Photojournalism & Documentary Photography at the London College of Communication she was able to approach work from a more creative and conceptual, but also ethical stance.
